Closing its first year of operation a few days ago, the exotic El Tropicana in the shadow of the Acropolis is one of those places that brought an air of renewal and proposed something different in the map of Athenian bargaining, emitting tropical vibes and relaxed atmosphere in one of the most historic neighborhoods of the city.
As its name suggests, the pirate compass at El Tropicana is turned towards the Caribbean, as a convention with the eternal summer, as a hunt for lost holidays, in an exotic and delicious way, in an environment where the decoration (with totems, straw stools, cult frames, surfboards, plants, etc.) and the feelgood vibes make you feel good all at once.
Colourful, vibrant, traveling, El Tropicana maps out new horizons in entertainment early on. You might as well come for the specialty coffee, and enjoy the alternative environment of the Square at the tables spread outwards. But you can also visit it for an early drink after work, choosing “gems” from its signature list, curated by the charismatic – and deeply knowledgeable – Vassilis Krematsiotis and Yannis Delidimitris.
Be sure to try the playful Bandicoot, with Havana Club Añejo 3 años, Aperol, coconut milk, pineapple puree, ginger, freshly squeezed lime, vanilla syrup and berries foam or the sweet and spicy Tropical Illusion, with Beefeater, M dry mastiha, strawberry puree, citrus sugar oils with cinnamon-ginger, freshly squeezed lime and pink pepper. We also draw your attention to Let’s Holiday and The Greeks which are made to perfection with Greek spirits, ouzo and tsipouro respectively.
Music is a non-negotiable element of the bar’s identity, which lifts our spirits and takes us on a journey to the cantons of the equator, with beautiful soul/funk music and well-known DJ’s of the Athenian scene who get us up to honor the dancefloor.
Due attention has also been paid to the food, which follows Latin American street food paths – ideal for snacking and sharing in the middle, with choices that will not only pique your interest but also make you sigh with excitement: Nachos with chilli con carne to warm you up – as usual – ecstatic tacos in various versions, insurmountable quesadillas with tender chicken and peppers and other goodies will uniquely accompany whatever you’re drinking.
